Preamble,
The Sharda University sponsored by Sharda Education Trust was established by Uttar Pradesh Legislature through Act 14 of 2009 in Greater Noida. The UGC has also accorded approval to the University under Section 2 (f) of UGC Act, 1956.
The very Act of University provides that among others Objectives of the University, it will also provide for the Social Equity by making special arrangements for imparting the Education to socially and economically backward students.
To achieve this objective, the University provides for the Reservation Quota in the admission in various programmes for the students belonging to Schedule Caste/Schedule Tribes/Others Socially and Economically Backward classes and has formulated many other Schemes for the benefits of this class of Students:-
Schemes for giving benefits at the Time of Admission-
a).The admission to various programmes (Engineering, Management, Dental and Medical) are made on merit basis and minimum percentage is fixed. However the students belonging to Socially and Economically backward classes are given relaxation of 5% in the minimum prescribed percentage of marks in qualifying examination.
b).There is provision of more than Rs 1 crore for giving Financial Support in the shape of scholarship, stipend and assistanceship etc. to the disadvantaged Students having family income less than 2.5 lakh per annum.
Scholarships by State Govt. through Distt. Welfare Officer-
The State Govt. provides for the Scholarships to the students belonging to SC/ST, Backward class and financially weaker section of the Society. These students are advised to fill the forms immediately after admission and special efforts are made at personal level to get their scholarships approved.
In some cases where the disadvantaged students are unable to pay full fee at the time of admission, they are admitted subject to the condition that they can pay their remaining fee on receipt of Scholarship from the Distt. Welfare of Officer.
Scheme for giving waivership in fee by the University-
The waivership in fee ranging from 25% to 100% to meritorious students is provided keeping in view the percentage of marks in qualifying examination and financial position of the family of the student i.e. the family income should not be more than 2.5 lakh per annum. The percentage for the award of waivership within this class is determined on need basis.
Sports/Achievement Scholarship-
Five merit-cum-mean Scholarship per year have also been instituted and these are awarded on the basis of achievement in sports and studies keeping in view social and economical position of the students, subject to the condition that family income of such students should not be more than 2.5 lakh per annum.
Senior Post graduate Scholarship-
A novel Scheme has also been introduced in the University to support the financially and socially disadvantaged Post Graduate Students.
Under this scheme the meritorious and needy student having less than 2.5 lakh Family Income may be involved in Teaching/Research Assistanceship for 10 hours a week and can earn upto 8000 to 10000 p.m.which will be good financial support to the needy and hard working meritorious Students to enable them to continue their studies.
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) of this Group-
As per ASSOCHAMS (ECO Pulse Study) on CSR for 2009-10 26 different themes have been identified for their CSR initiatives. Of these 26 themes, the Education is one of them and come next only to top theme of Community Welfare. Being in the field of Education the Sharda University under the aegis of Sharda Education Trust has taken lots of initiatives and priority to contribute positively to financial weaker section of Society. In our case we serve disadvantageous students by providing equal opportunity in imparting education by giving Scholarships, waivership in fee as mentioned above.
Thus we manage our CSR programmes based on our key areas of activity i.e. Education.
Sharda University has signed the MOU with NGOs to fulfill its obligation of serving the disadvantaged students.
NIP-NGO Internship Program at Sharda University an Initiative by Sharda Education Trust
Sharda Education Trust (SET) and Research and Extension Association for Conversation Horticulture and Agro-Forestry (REACHA) and several partnering NGOs have signed an MU for Sharda University’s NGO Internship Programme (NIP).
New Delhi, Delhi, August 27, 2009/India PRwire/– Sharda Education Trust (SET) and Research and Extension Association for Conversation Horticulture and Agro-Forestry (REACHA) and several partnering NGOs have signed an MOU for Sharda University’s NGO internship Programme (NIP).
Mr P K Gupta, Chairman, Sharda Group of Institute said, “The NIP project is a social initiative undertaken by the Trust for the development and betterment of society. SET will provide these NGOs highly motivated students and experienced faculty.”
Dedicated, trained manpower, i.e the University’s national and international faculty with years of experience and intellect, will work them on field, Application and Research based project. These inputs in turn will enable the NGOs to effectively implement and execute their present, as well as future projects.
Sharda University students will assist as volunteers an ground level projects and also get an opportunity to work on live projects, which will go a along way in contributing to their overall development.
As per the understanding, REACHA will identify, screen and select the NGOs where NIP can roll out. SET will provide: Infrastructure, trained and dedicated manpower and medical and medical services through its charitable hospital.
Since Sharda University’s focus is on application based learning, this program will offer students the required exposure to environmental and social science, humanities, cultural heritage and conservation as well as democratic reforms and governance issues.
A standing committee has been constituted oversee the execution of NIP and give direction to the Programme.
