ABOUT ACPC
The Government of Gujarat, in the Legislative Assembly has passed an Act No.2 of 2008 called “Gujarat Professional Technical Educational Colleges or Institutions (Regulation of Admission and Fixation of Fees) Act, 2007” to make special provision for regulation of admission in the professional technical educational colleges or institutions in the State and fixation of fees in such colleges or institutions and for matter connected therewith or incidental thereto. As per the powers conferred to State Government, in Section 20(1) of the said Act, the Government of Gujarat, Education Department by way of a Notification had constituted two different Committees called “Admission Committee for Professional Courses (ACPC)” and “Admission Committee for Professional Diploma Courses (ACPDC)” to regulate the admission of students to the professional degree and diploma courses respectively. The mission assigned to these committees is to carry out the counseling process in fair, transparent and nonexploitative manner. The admission process is conducted by these committees strictly on the basis of the merit and the preference of the candidate. The functions of the committee are as follows :
The committee shall supervise, monitor and control the process of admission of the students seeking admissions in all the professional degree and diploma courses.
The committee shall cause to prepare the merit list in accordance with the provisions of the Act and the rules made there under.
The committee shall cause to allocate the Government Seats and the Management Seats in accordance with the provisions of the Act and the rules made there under.
The committee shall ensure that admission in the Government Seats and the Management Seats are made as per the merit list prepared and that no student is admitted against the Management seats unless his name appears in the merit list.
The committee shall perform such other functions as may be assigned to it by the Government.
The ACPC deals with admission of Degree Engineering, Degree/Diploma Pharmacy, Degree Architecture, Hotel & Tourism Management and Diploma to Degree Engineering and Pharmacy. Similarly the ACPDC deals with admission of Diploma Engineering courses.
In the previous academic year both committees together have conducted the online admission process first time in the state for more than 266 institutes and more than 85000 seats spread all over the state including TFW super numerary seats for Diploma / Degree Engineering and Pharmacy courses. In addition to these the committee also granted the admissions on J & K Migrant scheme of the MHRD, Government of India. The committee also monitored the admission process for the Management Seats of various Semi/Self Financed Institutes effectively. Admission process for the Diploma to Degree (Lateral Entry) scheme of AICTE also conducted by the committee.
