Scholarships Available:
Two $1000.00 scholarships
Eligibility:
Any high school senior or college student who is Bilingual in English and another language (fully fluent in each) is eligible to apply for the 2010 MiTio Foundation Scholarship.
Scholarship Criteria:
The criteria for the award include: presenting a letter of acceptance or letter of enrollment from a school of accredited higher education; presenting a copy of their application to provide verification of degree field related to healthcare; submitting a 500 word essay; presenting proof of proficiency in English and the other language.
Proof of Proficiency Criteria:
Proof of English proficiency – Any of the following can be used as a proof:
-Copy of the Secondary/High School diploma or the diploma of the highest level of education
completed in English.
-Or one of the following tests (subject to change)
TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language): 570+ on paper; 230+ on
computer version; 90+ on iBT.
ELPT (English Language Proficiency Test): 950+
MELAB (Michigan English Language Assessment Battery) 80+
ECPE (Examination for the Certificate of Proficiency in English): PASS
FCE (First Certificate in English, Level 3): A
CAE (Certificate in Advanced English, Level 4): B
CPE (Certificate of Proficiency in English, Level 5): B
IELTS (International English Language Testing System) 7.0+
Proof of the Other Language(s) proficiency:
-Copy of the Secondary/High School diploma or the diploma of the highest level of education
completed in another language
-ACTFL Oral Exams (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages): 3.5 +

Essay:
The 500 word essay must be typed or computer generated, double spaced, twelve point font, on 8 ½ x 11 unlined white bond paper and in the English language. Handwritten essays or those in any other format will be disqualified. The essay must have a title page. The essay should be written on the subject of “How I plan to use my Bilingual abilities in the Healthcare field?”. All essays must be original, factually accurate and must not infringe upon any material protected by copyright.
Award Guidelines:
All entries will be reviewed by the MiTio Foundation Scholarship Committee. The committee members will select the scholarship recipients based on the content of their essay. Additional consideration will be given to those who have made any interpreting contributions to their local community/hospital. All essays become the property of the MiTio Foundation. Winners’ names may be released to the public and news media for promotional purposes. The scholarship will be awarded June 1, 2010 and December 1, 2010 and will be payable to the individual winners.
Procedures:
All documentation and completed essays should be mailed flat in a 9 x 12 envelope to: Dr. Nelva Lee, 300 Lester Mill Rd. Suite 200-O Locust Grove, GA 30248.
Deadline:
All applications must be postmarked or hand delivered no later than May 5, 2010 or November 5, 2010, or they will be deemed ineligible. Applications mailed to any other address will not be forwarded or considered. Scholarship Application Packet:
The packet that you are to submit should include the following items:
1) Application (below or on website www.mitio.org ) – 2 copies
2) Proof of proficiency- 2 copies
3) 500 Word Essay – 1 original – 7 copies
4) Letter of acceptance from a school of accredited higher education (four year college, junior college or technical college) 2 copies 4) Copy of college application or transcript to provide verification of degree field related to healthcare – 2 copies
